States Offering Tax Free Shopping Dates for 2012 Back to School Shopping:

 Alabama – August 3-5, 2012 - applies to clothing under $100, school supplies under $50, books under $30 and computer equipment under $750.

Arkansas – August 4-5, 2012, applies to clothing and footwear priced at less than $100 per item, accessories priced at less than $50 per item, and school supplies.

Connecticut – August 19-25, 2012 – applies to clothing and shoes under $300.

Florida – August 3-5, 2012 - applies to books, clothing and shoes $75 or less and back to school supplies under $15.

Iowa – August 3-4, 2012 - applies to clothing & shoes under $100

Louisiana- August 3-4, 2012 – purchases under $2,500 excludes taxable services, automobiles and meals.

Maryland- August 12- 18, 2012 – applies to clothing and shoes under $100.

Mississippi – July 27-28, 2012 - applies to clothing and shoes under $100.

Missouri – August 3-5, 2012 - applies to clothing under $100, school supplies under $50, computer software under $350, computer equipment under $3,500. Not all cities and counties are participating.

New Mexico – not confirmed yet for 2012. I will update this post as soon as I can confirm the dates. Last year, it applied to all clothing and shoes under $100, school supplies under $15, computers under $1,000, and computer equipment under $500.

North Carolina – August 3-5, 2012 – applies to clothing, footwear, and school supplies under $100. Sports and recreation equipment under $50, and computers under $3,500.

Oklahoma- not confirmed yet for 2012. I will update this post as soon as I can confirm the dates. last year, it applied to clothing and shoes under $100.

South Carolina – August 3-5, 2012 - applies to clothing, accessories, shoes, school supplies, computers, and computer equipment.

Tennessee – August 3-5, 2012 - applies to clothing and school supplies under $100 and computers under $1,500.

Texas – August 17-19, 2012 - applies to clothing and shoes under $100, school supplies under $100, backpacks under $100 for elementary and secondary students, and also includes layaway items.

Vermont- proposed for 2012, but not announced a date yet. I will update this page once it is made public.

Virginia – August 3-5, 2012 - applies to clothing and shoes under $100, and school supplies under $20.

Each state has specific eligibility requirements, too numerous and detailed to mention. Search “your state” + 2012 tax free shopping days for the specific exemptions in your state.

    Also for California ONLY kohls is having a Tax RELiEF sale aug 3-5. It’s basically like tax free but they call it tax relief because state law says the state gets paid their sales tax no matter what. I’m not 100% sure of the amt but I believe it’s an 10% discount on top of the other discounts u may have….. For examPle I have a kohls charge and I got a 20% off card I can use that with the tax relief and any kohls cash I may have
