I thought I would have the nicest cashier until it turned ugly quick.
Now mind you I keep my cool the whole time, I was not rude, never raised my voice.
I had brought up 2 outdoor sprays because back in the back all the outdoor items were 75% off. Signs were everywhere and everything was marked at 75% except these 2 sprays. I asked her about them because they were still marked at 50% and I wanted to know if they would give them to me at 75%. She rudely told me that she could not and that if they are not marked they can’t change anything that I would have to come back next week when they are marked.
I told her I was sorry I just thought it was maybe a mistake everything is 75% off back there and these 2 little things weren’t which totally didn’t make sense to me!
Anyways after that fiasco was over she rang up my items & I handed over coupons.
I knew from that minute it wouldn’t be a nice check out when she proceeded to pull everything out of my bag and inspect it.
My first coupon was for my tank top. They are on sale this week at $6 and with the $5 target printable it made them $1. She pulled it out of the bag, inspected the tag, inspected the price, scanned the coupon & it went through.
Next was the OFF! outdoor fogger spray that is 75% off at $1.88. I had a $3 coupon that was off 2 products. She took the spray out of the bag read every word on it, went to the screen to see how much they ran up, then she turned on her light and called for a supervisor. I asked her what the problem was and she said that my coupon was more then the product. I proceeded to tell her that it was off 2 products and $1.88+$1.88 equals more then $3. Supervisor came over grabbed all my coupons, sat there and read everything on them & then called the manager. She asked if they could adjust coupons down still or did that rule change. Nope they are still able to adjust down. I then had to explain again the coupon was off 2 items not 1 and after some realization they realized it was over the coupon amount.
Then onto the cascade where they weren’t to happy taking them on the trial size, but adjusted my coupon down. Then the neutrogena coupons went through just fine.
Now I am all for them checking to make sure I am not trying to pull a fast one on them. But the attitude I received because I was using coupons I felt was unacceptable. They told me like 3 times they are cracking down hard and have to inspect every single thing, that they are not allowed to make any changes without a supervisors permission and that they wouldn’t allow couponers to do this. Instead of nicely explain to me why they are doing things they mumbled, they gave me snotty looks, talked to me like I was a criminal, and were just plan rude! To me I felt they were pretty much profiling me because I was armed with coupons. We are people just trying to save money, we should not be treated any other way because we are using them. I just honestly hate how inconsistent Target is because I was just in there yesterday & used coupons without a problem. I will be calling Target Corp in the morning just to put in a complaint. I love Target but seriously 30-45min at the check out isn’t my forte!
Here is what I got:
Mossimo Tank $6 – $5 tp = $1
Cascade $.97 – $.97/1 = Free
OFF! Fogger $1.88 – $3/2 = $.76/2
Neutrogena makeup wipes $1.99 – $1/1 + $1/1 tp = Free
Total= $2.52 + $1.38 tax = $3.90

this is why i don't shop at target any more.
Yeah, I havent been to target its been about 1 month.. Last few times i used coupons they gave me a hard time. So i took all my coupons and just left the store.. I was at the checkout for more than one hour.
My daughter had a similar experience for the first time at Target yesterday. The cashier refused to adjust down a Clairol $2/1 for the color she got on clearance for $1.98 and wouldn't take the coupon at all. She also read every coupon and inspected everything she bought. She wasn't very polite about it either.
Extreme Couponing show says coupon usage is up by 27%. So many people are out there trying to use the wrong coupons for their items. I find this sad because it hurts everyone. I have to also say I'm fed up with the ebay coupon seller or shall we say clipping services wanting half the value of the coupon in order to purchase from them. I say we need to ban the clipping junkies selling on ebay and go to our local newspaper offices and just buy the whole inserts from them. So amny people are ruining it for others!!
I have had the same issue with target but were my cashier would rudely say over and over this lady is using coupons is going to be awhile. People were ok with it but she was not. Then would rudely look at me and say that this is way to much for her carpel tunnel and I shouldnt be using all these coupons.
WOW.. i probaby would of flipped out.. LOL!! I know the past two times i been to target they bring over a supervisor and they check everything to make sure the coupons are legit with that item.. I dont mind at all cause i know how to use my coupons. but sometimes it makes me feel a lil ackward esp. when ihave ppl behind me.
that is rude…let us know what happens after you call corp
Grrr is right! I went through this at my local grocery store last week. The cashier went through every coupon and matched it with every item. She didn't even attempt to ring the coupon through. The worst part, on all my internet coupons, she entered them in manually and refused to double them. She was SO incredibly rude and treated me like I was trying to steal. I went to customer service right away and was reimbursed for the coups she refused to double. When I got home, the manager of the store had called to apologize and gave me a $20 gc for my problems.
I'm sick of being treated poorly for being a smart shopper.
I had problems with coupons the last time I went to Target too. I was using diaper coupons and my cashier tried to tell me that I couldn't use my coupon because the picture on the coupon was a size 2 and mine was a size 4. After her manager finally explained to her that I could use the coupon she then proceeded to empty everything out of my bags to check my items to all my other coupons. What should have been a quick checkout turned into a 15 minute fiasco. If I didn't really need the diapers I would have just them to keep in all.
Happened to me in hickory…the cashier was new so she had to get help from the start to price match. The trainer came over and did the same thing. She was very rude and it took forever and instead of price matching at the register she made me ring everything up, went through my coupons one at a time and disputing everyone of them and then I had to go to customer service to get a refund from the price matching……crazy right!!!
I get that stores are being a bit more harsh because people are getting things for free and/or trying to abuse the coupon system but that is ridiculous! I was just at Target today & used coupons no problem & personally have never had an issue like that. Why can't stores understand that a lot more people are using coupons because of job loss & are trying to save money? It does sicken me when coupon people clear the shelves. The way I look at it is I buy what I will use. Sadly I don't have room to stockpile items that quite frankly may go bad before I can use them.
My daughter had a bad experience at Target just the other day. She had a $3.00 coupon that did not even get counted and was almost sure one of her Target coupons were not counted but hard to tell. She had a 5.00 coupon for infant formula that was not counted. The cashier was almost not going to tell her it seemed. Then she told her she would have to go to customer service to get the money. They told her to slide her debit card again and that it might charge again but it would be credited. She had to check her bank acct. to make sure there was not a double charge. I never heard of doing that before. It makes me not want to go there.
I'm having problems like this at my Target as well. I was told by the morning manager a couple weeks ago to "deal" with it. I wasn't even saying anything as he read every little word on everything because I knew they were all right. The cashier got confused and she called him over and I didn't say a word but he looked me dead in the eye and said "You'll have to deal with it!" I just smiled and stood there and once I got home, I got my butt on the phone with corporate and turned his butt in!
I drive 1/2 hour just to go to a target where i never have problems. I have nothing but problems at the target & walmart that is just down the street from me. they are rude and lazy. People complain about not having a job, but when they do have one they don't wanna do it.
I don't understand how the store can adjust the amout of the coupon if the item you are buying is priced less than the coupon amount. The manufacturer is going to reimburse them the value of the coupon plus so they are actually making money off of every coupon.
My cashier snatched the coupons from me, got my coupons all wrinkled and complained they weren't scanning. She kept slamming her scanner on the counter as if it was the scanner's fault. If she didn't get the coupons all wrinkled and messed up, they would've scanned fine. I'm always a little scared to use coupons at my Target.
I get this everytime I go to the store. Walmart, Target, grocery stores it doesn't matter where. Most of the time it is the Sunday newspaper coupons that don't want to scan and they tell me "well it won't scan so you can't use it", then it is a fiasco with the manager. One time at the grocery store I was just trying to buy a few groceries when my two of my coupons wouldn't scan. They wound up dragging everything out of the bags and reading every word of coupons twice before deciding to override the system and give me the coupons. They were 25cent coupons. Why can't these stores realize that the economy is bad and that some people have to use coupons in order to feed our families. And these people that make fake coupons need to realize they will not profit in the end and that they are making it hard for everyone. Remember the golden rule.
